Ribbon Cutting honoring a member of the greatest generation Edward Littlejohn

On Tuesday June 20, 2017, a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony was held to celebrate a ramp that was built to enable 95 year old Veteran, Edward Littlejohn the dignity needed to remain in his home and have a way to safely enter/leave. Mr. Littlejohn, was selected by Purple Heart Homes to be the recipient of this customized ramp. The Home Builders Association of Delaware, Purple Heart Homes, Disabled Veterans of Dover, Dover Federal Credit Union and the Home Depot Foundation joined forces to honor 95 year-old WWII, Korean and Vietnam Veteran Edward Littlejohn by building a wheelchair ramp so he can enter and leave his home safely and with dignity.

Purple Heart Homes, (PHH), a national public charity based in Statesville, NC brought the Homes Builders Association of Delaware, Disabled Veterans of Dover and Dover Federal Credit Union together to give back to disabled veterans in our local communities, who have fought to protect our freedom and now need supportive devices to remain in their home. The partnership formed by these organizations and volunteers allowed for the ramp to be built and Mr. Littlejohn could remain in his home.

Edward Littlejohn’s two daughters, Susan Machemer and Mary Bingham are very grateful to the community of Dover for making such a difference in his life with the wheelchair ramp. Susan Machemer said, “the ramp is beautiful it enables him to use his wheelchair to go to doctor’s appointments and enjoy sitting outside."

Dover Federal Credit Union has been dedicated to serving the Dover military community since 1958. “Edward Littlejohn fought for the freedom of our country and we are honored to have joined forces to provide the needed funding to construct this ramp. “Stated James C. McCulley, President of the Home Builders Association of Delaware.”
